Dr. Elewski received her undergraduate degree from Miami University, Oxford, OH and her MD degree, cum laude from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1978. She interned at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, where she also took her dermatology training. She undertook additional studies in mycology at Duke University in Durham, NC.

She is currently Vice-Chairman of Clinical Affairs of Dermatology at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. She is a past president of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Women's Dermatologic Society, and the Cleveland Dermatologic Society and a founding member of the Annenberg Circle of the Dermatology Foundation. Her main interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous fungal infections. She currently serves on the editorial boards of Mycology Observer, Cosmetic Dermatology, and Skin Therapy Newsletter.
