Doctor Calap is a graduate of Valencia University School of Medicine and completed his dermatology training at the Hospital of the University of Munich. He is Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Medicine and Director of the University Hospital at University in Cadiz (Spain).

In addition to membership in the Spanish Academy of Dermatology, the Editorial Board of MEDICINA ESPAÑOLA (Spain) and the Editorial Board of SKINmed (USA), he is an honorary member of Hamburger Dermatological Gesellschaft (Hamburg-Germany). His interests include the history of dermatology, skin tumors, psychosomatic dermatology and electron microscopy.
